A Fond Farewell
I was nervous about the show last night. I had a very specific vision of how I wanted things to be structured and presented.
That's not the best approach when you have no rehearsal and no budget.
But thanks to the gracious generosity of my friends, it came together exactly as I imagined.
It's a dangerous premise, producing a mock tribute show to yourself. There's a fine line between being the butt of your own joke and making an ass out of yourself.
From the response however, everyone seemed to take it in the self-effacing manner I intended.
It was a great turnout, an array of friends from all stages of my life. It was a little mind-boggling to see all those people sitting in the audience, smiling up at me just as they have for the past five, ten, or twenty years. I'm priviledged and grateful to have enjoyed their kind support.
It was a wonderful send-off.
The next few days will be a whirlwind of packing, cleaning, and last-minute errands. (Including buying a refridgerator to take out there.) I'll probably be off the grid for a while - my cable connection goes down at midnight tonight.
Then it's On The Road With Tom & Joe, a cross-country adventure that will take us across the country in four days and drop us into the warm, sprawling lap of Los Angeles.
I'll be plugging in the laptop at any available opportunity, so stay posted for updates next week.
-Tom, who'll probably be able to get more done without a net connection...
