I'm Ignoring You Because I Love You

I don't share many of the fine points about the auditions I go out on: names of the shows, products, potential cast, etc.

It's not that I don't go out for interesting things. It seems like there's always something cool around the corner.

But the issue is: until I get signed on to actually join that cool project, there's no use investing energy in it. Mine - or yours.

The thing about auditioning is that you put your heart into doing your best work (often in trying circumstances) and then when you walk out of the room, your input ends. Three to thirty strangers comb through your audition tape, talk about you in unflattering ways, and make purely subjective decisions about whether to hire you.

If they do, they call you. It is awesome.

If they don't, you will never hear how close you were, or what you could have done to get the job. No one wants to make a phone call that says "you're not talented/pretty/funny enough."

To cope with this, I've adopted what I call a "fire and forget" strategy. I go in, do the best I can, and forget about it.

And a part of forgetting about it is to not tell you that I read for a sitcom, or a new comedy show, or a cool commercial. Frankly, until it turns into a JOB, it's not important enough for either of us to get excited about.

So forgive me for being sparse on the details.

But trust me: they'll be there when the time is right.

-Tom, talented, funny, and ...pretty? Uhm... that's a whole 'nother blog.

I agree. I'm pretty tired of telling people how you and I were both up for co-star on CSI: Fresno, but we both got beat out by Ralph Macchio (curse his boyish good looks). So from now on, mums the word.

As long as that's not your dating strategy...

Tom Lommel in... "West Coast Story"

Tom feels pretty
Oh so pretty
He feels pretty and witty and gay
And I pity
Any boy who isn't him today
He feels charming
Oh so charming
It's alarming how charming he feels
And so pretty
That he hardly can believe he's real
See the pretty boy in that headshot there?
Who can that attractive boy be?
Such a pretty face
Such a pretty suit
Such a pretty smile
Such a pretty nerd!
He feels bank-able
Near Tom Hanks-able
Feels like acting
And dancing some more
For he's loved
By a casting di-rec-tor!
