Ja, So Einfach Ist Es
Monday I had an audition for a three-line part as a German worker. Not complicated, but once the scripted part of the scene was over the casting director just continued on. So I did as well. In German.
She seemed pleased and impressed and I walked out of the building feeling good.
Twenty-four hours later, the phone rings: I booked a job on the season finale of Brothers & Sisters.
I was scheduled to work one day but when I arrived on set Wednesday, they had neglected to reckon with the fact that it was monsoon season in Valencia. We were on location at a ranch up in the mountains that has a small Mexican village set. By noon it was clear that we wouldn't be shooting my scene, but they couldn't release me because the 3-mile dirt road back to town was declared impassable.
Once the gravel truck and the road grader showed up, I got to head home. Yeah, it rained that hard. I drove directly to the car wash to remove the six inches of mud that caked my little Integra.
Fortunately, the Valencia monsoon season only lasts one day. Thursday was the polar opposite: beautiful and sunny. Here's a shot of me outside my trailer in full "Karl" attire:
Overall, it was a great experience and finally gave me the excuse I needed to join SAG. Best of all, my scene was with Sally Field. She's really brilliant and it was a privilege to work with her.
Assuming it doesn't get cut (cross your fingers!) it will be a great piece of tape for my acting reel.
-Tom, who had a good week.

Ditto. That effing rocks, Tom! Congrats!!!
Nice with Sally, too. Did she try to sell you on Boniva?
Sorry. You can't just drop a nuke on me and not expect a little fallout.
Did you tell her I think she's cute? Did I come up at all in the conversation? Anything?
Wow. I've read the blog of a person who knows Sally Field. Sally Freaking Field!
I'm pretty sure the monsoon was God's way of telling you "Do not screw this up."
Man. Excuse me while I go re-enact scenes from Norma Rae in honor of your good fortune.
I'll let you know when it airs -- I don't have an actual date, I just know it's the last episode of the season.
So, in this scenario, does that make Tom "Moondoggie"?
;)
Congratulations. This is moving up to pure and utter awesome.
Oh, and glog... totally.
And I especially like how YOU ARE A GIANT standing next to Sally Field! What is she - four foot tall?
Keep us posted when it airs. Conratulations, Tom!
Say, does being a member of the SAG mean that you can't work for free on those hilarious "Fear of Girls" shorts anymore? Tell me it isn't so! Aaaaa!
Dood...Awesome!
PS Are you on face book? I'd love for you to see my two boys!
Or at least have higher expectations for how fast things are supposed to happen.
Congratulations, TomLom. See you at Norton's.
