The other day, gadget blog Gizmodo (of which I am generally a fan) got their knickers in a twist over the fact that one of the people in a recent "I'm A PC" spots from Microsoft was -- GASP! -- an actress!!

I'm a little galled at the breathless way this was reported. (For a bunch of snarky tech bloggers they seem PAINFULLY naive.) I'm also a bit perturbed at the way the actress' website was flayed open for the public. [More]

Start Planning Your Friday Night...

Last spring I shot a promo for TV Land's new PRIME line-up, which launched this past fall.

Now someone has finally uploaded the spot to YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dq5QfJoP2d8

As Promised

So here's some fun news: I spent all day Wednesday in my pajamas.

"Now, Tom," you might ask, "how is that different than any OTHER day of the week?" Then you would give a self-satisfied smirk and I would go "HEY-O!" and we'd get down to the real business.

And the real business is this: I shot a promo for the cable channel TV Land on Wednesday.

I probably shouldn't say too much more about it until they actually release it (who knows what the edit will be like anyway) but the gist is that a couple is getting ready for a VERY SPECIAL night... of watching TV Land.

It was a fun spot to shoot and will be a great piece of tape for me. They are scheduled to start airing it on June 4th, so expect more details then.

-Tom, burnin' up basic cable.

And Then I Got Married

 ...to myself.

One of the important and common items of wardrobe that you need to have for commercials is a wedding band. (Second on that list is a white lab coat. Welcome to the Weirdness.)

I'm firmly in the 'married guy' demographic for advertising, and -- not being in the 'married guy' demographic personally -- I decided to see if I could find something cheap that could pass for a wedding ring. Operative word being "cheap."

Of course, I was also looking for something nice. I mean, the appearance of a guy's fake wedding ring says a lot about his imaginary wife. [More]

Rush Limbaugh: Number 1 Super Fan

Someone called in to the Rush Limbaugh Show on Friday and brought up my new Lowe's spot. He said he was "pretty disturbed" and "I was thinking, you know, this commercial's really emasculating. I feel like all these shows and these commercials are out to make men look like boobs!"

You expect Rush to get on the bandwagon, right? Wrong!

He basically says the guy is getting offended over nothing, and then goes on to say "I think there's a lot of humor in that commercial, rather than an attempt to emasculate. "

Of course, I'd be happier if Rush had, you know... actually seen it. But don't look a gift horse in the mouth, right?

My favorite exchange:

CALLER: Well, you know, my girlfriend saw nothing wrong with the commercial.

RUSH: Of course not.

You can read the full transcript here.

-Tom, who predicts that later this month my spot will also bring about peace in the Middle East.

Unfortunately, no. Although the resemblance is a bit uncanny. Particularly the way the guy scrunches up his face and talks with his hands.

Nashville Needs a Nickname

For the second time this year, I am back in Nashville, Tennessee. Back in the ancient history of this blog (also known as "January") I wrote about my gig as the host of a set of videos which became part of the Sunday School curriculum from United Methodist Communications.

It was a really cool opportunity. (Not many people put 'cool' and 'Sunday School' in the same breath, but you all know how I live on the edge.)

Well, the series has been so well received that the publishing company greenlit another year's worth of videos.

So, guess who's back? [More]

I'm Royce Warwick, of Warwick Seltz

Last fall I got called at the last minute to audition for the part of this bad lawyer. "Something in the vein of Jack Prescott" they told me on the phone.

So I hauled out my big clunky Lumbergs, put on the polyester pin-striped suit I wore for Confirmation and did my best awkward dork.

Turns out I am king of the awkward dorks. (You'd think that would be noted somewhere on my birth certificate.)

The concept behind the campaign is that Royce Warwick is litigating on behalf of all plaintiffs who have been the victims of so-so pizza. Yes, he specializes in pizza law.

It's pretty hysterical.

They put the whole thing online as a fake website for the law firm which features a bio, the spots, and - even better - a "live" consultation with Royce over his web-cam.

I know when I say "web-cam" you think "sexy." It's not. But it is funny.

Enjoy!

-Tom, who dares you to make a comment about Royce's glasses.
